FM Conway, the leading UK infrastructure company specialising in highways, has won a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its ‘transformational approach to occupational road risk’.
Presented annually by Prince Michael of Kent since 1987, the road safety award is considered one of the most prestigious in the world. The award recognises outstanding achievement and innovation regarding road safety improvement on a global scale.
FM Conway was awarded in the ‘Safer Road Users’ category thanks to its transformational approach to managing occupational road risk within the company. The ongoing initiative introduces new technologies to its fleet and new processes to its workers and aims to eliminate harm on the roads.
According to the company, the initiative is being delivered as part of a 10-year health and safety strategy. As a result, they have seen a 62% reduction in road traffic incidents involving personal injury and a 99% reduction in insurance claims paid in the past year.
The firm’s SHEQ managing director, Andrew Cox, said: “We have always made great strides in the name of road safety, but this is truly an honour for FM Conway. We feel very privileged to be recognised by Prince Michael of Kent.
“We hope that our work to reduce risk in this area continues to be noticed. This is our top risk as a business and the risk we’re working hardest to mitigate to ensure that everyone on the road can go home safe every day.”
FM Conway also received the National Highways Award in 2022 for their ‘exceptional contribution to road user safety’. Michael Conway, the company’s late chairman, also received an MBE in 2017 for his services to UK construction, infrastructure support, and road safety.
